Unanimous Jury Convicts Plymouth Teacher of Sex Offences Against Two Pupils

Sentencing is scheduled for February 10 following an order for a pre-sentence report.

Overview

  • The jury delivered unanimous guilty verdicts at Plymouth Crown Court after a trial that began in December.
  • Anthony Redmond, 54, a former geography teacher, was convicted of five counts of abusing a position of trust with one pupil, two counts with a second, and one count of indecency with a child.
  • The offences, committed in the 2000s, occurred at his home, on school premises, in a hotel, and in one instance inside a school cupboard.
  • One victim told the court she felt "used and worthless," and jurors heard Redmond took both victims' virginity.
  • Judge Robert Linford ordered a pre-sentence report, granted bail at the request of defence lawyer Ali Rafiti, and set sentencing for February 10 following a police investigation that led to the trial.
