UNAM Publishes Results After Replacing Flawed Online Admissions Exam

The move settles who will begin classes on August 31, accelerates a criminal probe, and triggers policy shifts on digital test security.

Overview

  • The UNAM released the results late Friday for the Examen de Control that it applied after finding anomalies in its first fully online admissions test.
  • The university confirmed it will receive 49,074 new undergraduates for 2026–2027/1, of whom 28,151 enter by Pase Reglamentado and 20,923 by the contest of selection.
  • The control test was held between August 12 and 19 in León, Oaxaca, Tijuana and Mexico City using 120-question exams on offline tablets under in-person surveillance and around 36,000 of roughly 58,000 convoked applicants attended.
  • Published results show widespread drops in minimum cut scores compared with the annulled online test, with many programs falling by tens of correct answers and no school-based program exceeding 100 correct responses.
  • The Mexico City prosecutor has linked two men to the alleged fraud scheme and the investigation continues, and the IPN has changed its September exam to a hybrid model for the capital region as a precautionary response to the UNAM episode.
