UNAM Political and Social Sciences Faculty Extends Online Classes Through Semester

Faculty leaders cite safety as the overriding reason for staying online.

Overview

  • The FCPyS Technical Council voted unanimously on Nov. 7 to keep instruction remote for the remainder of the 2025-1 term, which ends Nov. 28.
  • Teaching remains compulsory and planned evaluations must proceed under existing course programs, the faculty said.
  • Centers of Study will maintain school and administrative services, including degree processes, social service and professional internships.
  • The decision follows an Oct. 9 indefinite stoppage after a false bomb threat, with several other UNAM faculties still suspended following reported threats.
  • UNAM rector Leonardo Lomelí has urged a return to in-person teaching, while UPN-Ajusco students blocked Periférico Sur to demand their rector’s removal during an ongoing strike.
