UNAM Opens 2,024 Places for Rejected Applicants

The university says the slots give displaced candidates a second chance after it found irregularities in the 2026 online admissions test and ordered a repeat exam.

Overview

  • UNAM opened registration on Monday for “Tu Segunda Opción,” allowing 16,543 applicants who were not placed to sign up from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4 to seek one of 2,024 seats across 66 degree programs.
  • Places will be assigned by the number of correct answers on the repeated Examen de Control rather than by registration order, with results due Sept. 4 at 18:00 and enrollment documents available Sept. 5 on MI SITIO.
  • The measure follows anomalous results on the initial fully online exam that led UNAM to run a tougher, in‑person repeat test in multiple cities and left 16,543 applicants unplaced after admissions.
  • UNAM has rescinded its contract with the online platform provider Territorium Life, launched three audits including a technological review, and prosecutors detained two people in a substitution‑fraud probe.
  • Only about one in ten rejected applicants can expect a new place, the university sped up enrollment for those admitted, and the audits and legal probes could change vendor contracts and future exam security.
