Overview

• UNAM rose three spots to 122nd globally in the July 2025 Webometrics Ranking by CSIC’s Cybermetrics Lab, which evaluated over 32,000 institutions.
• The university secured the second-best ranking in Latin America, trailing only Brazil’s Universidade de São Paulo.
• It stands as the only Mexican entrant in the global top 500 and is the sole Latin American top-ten institution to improve its standing this edition.
• Webometrics assesses universities on the volume and quality of open-access content, online visibility and commitment to transparent knowledge dissemination.
• In response to the results, UNAM pledged to widen open-access policies and enhance its digital research footprint to address Mexico’s scientific and educational challenges.
