UNAM and IPN Expand Seats as SEP Opens Aug. 21–28 Late Registration

Overview

  • UNAM will enroll 35,636 mid‑secondary students in 2025–2026 after adding more than 1,600 places, and IPN will admit 27,613 after expanding by 1,883 seats.
  • SEP’s extemporaneous registration runs Aug. 21–28 on miderechomilugar.gob.mx for those unassigned or who missed earlier deadlines, with real-time availability and direct pre‑enrollment.
  • The joint UNAM–IPN admission exam was administered fully online for the first time June 13–22 with AI proctoring and distinct item sets by session under the ECOEMS model that replaces COMIPEMS.
  • Authorities reported that about 107,000 aspirants took the test and that 97.4% were assigned to one of their top three choices.
  • UNAM reported a 10% average score increase versus prior years and nine perfect results (128/128), as students also described technical issues and AI false alarms that raised equity concerns.
