UN Flags Intensified Settler and Military Violence in West Bank

The UN rights office warned of recent weeks of violence driving record injuries, displacing thousands, demolishing homes and entrenching illegal annexation.

Overview

  • The UN reported escalating killings, attacks and harassment of Palestinians by Israeli settlers and security forces across the West Bank and East Jerusalem in recent weeks.
  • About 30,000 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced in the northern West Bank since January’s launch of the Israeli military’s “Iron Wall” operation.
  • In June, the UN recorded the highest monthly total of Palestinian injuries in the West Bank in over two decades.
  • Since January there have been 757 settler attacks on Palestinians or their properties, marking a 13% increase on the same period last year.
  • OHCHR data indicate at least 964 Palestinians and 53 Israelis have been killed in the occupied West Bank since October 7, 2023.
