UN Expands List of Companies Tied to West Bank Settlements, Adding 68 to Reach 158

The UN says the non-binding roster is meant to drive corporate due diligence and reputational accountability rather than impose legal penalties.

Overview

  • OHCHR assessed 215 enterprises in this update, added 68 and removed seven, and said hundreds more submissions remain under review.
  • The 158 firms span 11 countries and are mostly Israeli, with new listings including Heidelberg Materials, Steconfer and Ineco and removals such as Alstom, eDreams and Opodo.
  • Travel brands including Expedia, Booking and Airbnb remain on the list, which targets activities like construction, heavy equipment, security, finance and travel services in West Bank settlements.
  • Israel’s diplomatic mission in Geneva “categorically rejected” the publication, and companies were notified of their listing and given a right of reply, with several disputing inclusion.
  • UN human rights chief Volker Türk stressed businesses must avoid contributing to abuses in territories widely deemed unlawfully settled by many states and the ICJ as scrutiny intensifies.
