UN Appeals for Major Funding to Address Humanitarian Crisis as Violence Continues in Sudan

The UN has called on Middle Eastern and European countries to increase aid efforts to address a dire humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
Over 3,000 people have been killed in ongoing conflict between the military and paramilitary forces.
The UN's emergency aid program has received less than 17% of the $3 billion needed to assist over half of Sudan's population suffering from violence, displacement, and lack of access to food and healthcare.
Several countries have pledged additional aid, including Qatar, Germany, and the United States, but much more is needed to address the crisis.
A ceasefire brokered by the US and Arabia is the ninth truce since violence began, calling into question its potential effectiveness.
