Overview

• The UMass Board of Trustees voted unanimously Monday to name the Daniel J. Riccio Jr. College of Engineering in recognition of the gift.
• The $50 million commitment, to be paid over ten years, is the largest private donation in the campus’s history.
• $40 million will endow undergraduate scholarships, graduate fellowships, a biomedical engineering chair, a deanship, and professorships to recruit or retain eight faculty members.
• A $10 million catalyst fund will back collaborations with UMass Chan on technology‑and‑health, a design curriculum with the College of Humanities and Fine Arts, and an engineering leadership program with the Isenberg School of Management.
• UMass Amherst will add $25 million in institutional resources, including endowment matching, and Riccio has indicated he plans to stay actively involved on campus following a prior $15 million pledge to UMass Chan in 2022.
