Overview

  • At approximately 10:50 a.m. Saturday, a privately registered Quad City Challenger II ultralight collided with terrain in a field on private property just west of Dugald in the Rural Municipality of Springfield.
  • Manitoba RCMP and RM of Springfield fire crews responded around 11 a.m., with neighbours initially guiding first responders to the wreckage behind a home.
  • The male pilot, who was the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene and authorities have not released further details about his identity.
  • Investigators from the Transportation Safety Board have gathered wreckage evidence, conducted witness interviews and examined flight data to reconstruct the accident.
  • Officials say it is too early to determine a cause and that the TSB’s findings will inform aviation safety recommendations without assigning blame.
