Overview
- The Indian Army and Assam Rifles launched an intelligence-led operation in the MS-6/6 Mile Lekang Khampti area of Namsai on the night of October 21–22.
- Security forces engaged a ULFA(I) group and recovered the body of self-styled Sergeant Major Iwon Axom at first light.
- Officials reported seizing one rifle, an RPG round and three rucksacks from the site, while some outlets cited an HK-series rifle and a grenade.
- Police and CRPF units joined the cordon as the search continues with drones, a helicopter and tracker dogs to locate remaining cadres.
- Axom is suspected by officials and local sources to be linked to the October 17 attack on the Army’s Kakopathar COB in Tinsukia.
