UK's Largest Mobile Networks Face £3bn Legal Claim for Overcharging

Consumer champion Justin Gutmann alleges that Vodafone, EE, Three, and O2 overcharged customers beyond the end of their contracts, affecting up to 28.2 million contracts.

  • Consumer champion Justin Gutmann has launched a legal claim against the UK's four largest mobile phone networks - Vodafone, EE, Three, and O2 - alleging they overcharged customers beyond the end of their contracts.
  • The lawsuit, seeking damages of more than £3bn, is being brought on behalf of 4.8 million people and could affect up to 28.2 million UK mobile phone contracts dating back to 2007.
  • If successful, consumers who had contracts with just one of the mobile operators could receive more than £1,800.
  • The claim, known as the 'Loyalty Penalty Claim', alleges that the network operators did not reduce the amount they charged customers once their minimum contract term ended, despite the fact that consumers had already paid for their mobile handsets.
  • The claim is an opt-out claim, meaning qualifying consumers would be automatically included on the claim for free unless they follow specific steps to opt out.
