Ukrenergo Extends Power Restrictions, Sets Hourly Outages for Nov. 10

The grid operator cites a difficult power-system situation following damage to thermal generation.

Overview

  • Ukrenergo ordered supply limits to remain in place through Nov. 9 and said most regions will face hourly shutoffs on Nov. 10 with added curbs for industry.
  • Emergency or scheduled hourly outages have continued for more than two days in many regions, including Kyiv, with further cutoffs planned.
  • The state generator Centrenergo reported a full stop at all state thermal power plants, leaving its electricity output at zero.
  • DTEK said one of its thermal power plants suffered serious damage, contributing to the shortfall in available generation.
  • Power briefly failed at Kyiv’s Mariinsky Palace during a Guardian interview with President Volodymyr Zelensky before a backup generator restored electricity.
