Ukrainian Teen Vadym Davydenko, 17, Fatally Stabbed at Dublin Care Unit

Gardaí expect a post-mortem to steer the case, with an interview planned for an injured 17-year-old in hospital.

Overview

  • The stabbing occurred shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday inside a Tusla-contracted emergency residential unit at the Grattan Wood apartment complex in Donaghmede.
  • Gardaí have sealed the scene for forensic work, committed homicide inquiry resources, and say the incident is self-contained with no additional suspects sought.
  • Two other teenagers were attacked during the incident, one of whom fought off the assailant, and a female care worker who intervened sustained minor injuries.
  • The injured teenager, who is 17 and from Somalia, remains in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to be interviewed by investigators.
  • The unit, run by a private provider on behalf of Tusla, houses four unaccompanied minors, and authorities are providing extra supports while government leaders urge against online attempts to weaponise the case.
