Ukrainian Police Officer Freed After Two Years of Russian Captivity

Mariana Checheliuk was captured during the siege of Mariupol's Azovstal steelworks in April 2022.
She was subjected to starvation, beatings, and other forms of abuse in multiple Russian POW camps.
Despite attempts by Russian forces to recruit her, Checheliuk remained loyal to Ukraine.
Her health significantly worsened due to poor conditions and inadequate medical treatment.
Checheliuk was part of a prisoner exchange that saw 75 Ukrainians and 75 Russians released.
