Overview

  • On June 1, the Security Service of Ukraine’s Operation Spider Web destroyed 41 Russian military aircraft at the Olenya, Ivanovo, Dyagilevo and Belaya airfields.
  • The losses included A-50 early warning planes, Tu-95, Tu-22 and Tu-160 strategic bombers, as well as An-12 transport and Il-78 aerial refueling aircraft.
  • Ukrainian engineers developed custom FPV drones capable of real-time remote piloting from thousands of kilometers away.
  • The mission relied on concealing drones inside modular wooden shelters that opened remotely to deploy the unmanned aircraft.
  • The strike was a retaliatory measure against Russian rocket attacks on Ukrainian cities and inflicted over $7 billion in damage to Russian aviation assets.
