Ukraine’s Deep-Range Drones Strike Russian Infrastructure, Killing Civilians

As ceasefire negotiations stall, Kyiv has stepped up long-range drone strikes to degrade Russian military and energy assets.

Overview

  • Ukrainian officials said long-range drones targeted the Primorsko-Akhtarsk airfield, the Elektropribor defense plant and the Central Asia-Centre gas pipeline in recent raids.
  • Another overnight drone wave ignited a fire at a Sotchi oil depot, which regional authorities said caused no casualties.
  • Regional governors reported that downed drone debris sparked fires in Samara, Penza and Rostov regions that killed three civilians, including an elderly man about 800 kilometers from the front.
  • The Russian Ministry of Defence said its forces intercepted 112 Ukrainian drones during the night, and AFP figures show Moscow launched a record 6,297 drones at Ukraine in July to overwhelm its defenses.
  • Ukraine has appealed to Western allies for Patriot and other advanced air-defense batteries after its own systems were tested by Russia’s mass drone attacks.
