Ukraine Thwarts Major Russian Spy Operation

The Security Service of Ukraine has dismantled a significant espionage network, capturing five operatives and exposing threats to national security.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has dismantled a Russian spy ring, detaining five individuals involved in espionage activities.
Operatives were forced into spying for Russia by threats against their families, with some being former and serving Ukrainian intelligence officers.
The network was involved in gathering sensitive information on military sites, defensive fortifications, and energy facilities across Ukraine.
Espionage activities included the collection of data on the protection system at nuclear power plants and the exact positioning of coastline fortifications in the Odesa region.
The operation was supported by internal security units from the Foreign Intelligence Service, Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate, and the SBU, under the guidance of the Prosecutor General's Office.
