Ukraine Strikes Russian Air Bases, Destroying Over 40 Aircraft; Russia Responds with Record Drone and Missile Attack

Overview

  • Ukraine’s Security Service said its operation, code-named Spiderweb, involved smuggling first-person-view drones into Russia over 18 months under President Zelenskyy’s direct supervision.
  • The strikes hit airfields in Irkutsk, Murmansk, Ivanovo, Ryazan and Amur, destroying 41 strategic bombers and surveillance planes and causing an estimated $7 billion in damage.
