Ukraine Says It Thwarted Most of Massive Overnight Drone Barrage as Strikes Hit Power Grid

Ukraine calls Russia’s spring–summer offensive a failure with heavy losses, reinforcing a defiant message after the latest nationwide attack.

Overview

  • The Air Force reported neutralizing 126 of 142 Shahed-type and other drones launched overnight from sites in Russia and occupied Crimea, while 16 strike UAVs hit 10 locations and debris fell in six areas.
  • Regional officials said drone strikes damaged four power facilities in the Odesa area, cutting service to more than 29,000 customers, and left about 30,000 households without electricity in Chernihiv’s Nizhyn district.
  • Civilian impacts included one person injured in the Odesa region and one killed in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where guided bombs, FPV drones, and artillery also damaged homes and infrastructure.
  • Ukraine’s General Staff logged a day of intense activity with one massive missile-air strike using 48 rockets, 79 airstrikes with 161 guided bombs, 4,475 artillery strikes including 51 from MLRS, and 5,563 kamikaze drones.
  • Ukrainian forces reported 182 frontline engagements on August 30, with the fiercest clashes in the Pokrovsk and Lyman sectors, as investigators in Lviv probed the Aug. 30 killing of lawmaker Andriy Parubiy with no suspects named.
