Ukraine Says 552 Drones and 31 Missiles Shot Down in Overnight Russian Barrage

Kyiv presses allies for stronger air defenses after strikes killed at least three civilians.

  • President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia launched 40 missiles and about 580 drones against nine regions, including Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Poltava, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Sumy and Zaporizhzhia.
  • Ukraine’s Air Force reported intercepting 552 drones and 31 missiles, yet a missile struck a residential block in Dnipro, leaving at least three dead and dozens injured.
  • Ukrainian statements credited coordinated air defenses and F-16 pilots with helping to counter cruise missiles and drone swarms during the overnight assault.
  • Estonia reported a violation of its airspace by three Russian MiG-31s and NATO said the jets were intercepted, a claim Russia denied; Poland briefly deployed aircraft and air defenses as a precaution near its border.
  • Zelensky plans high-level meetings at the UN in New York, including with President Donald Trump, to seek additional air-defense support and tougher sanctions, while Russian officials reported four deaths from a drone strike in Samara attributed to Ukraine.
