Ukraine Reports 172 Clashes, Naming Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka as the Hardest Fighting

Escalating drone use is defining the battlespace, from urban strikes to Ukrainian hits in Crimea.

Overview

  • Ukraine’s General Staff counted 172 combat clashes in the past 24 hours, citing 64 air strikes, 120 guided bombs, 4,918 shellings and 5,462 loitering munitions, with the Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka sectors the most active.
  • Kyiv’s military intelligence released footage claiming two Russian Mi-8 helicopters were destroyed at Crimea’s Hvardiiske air base and a tugboat was struck in Sevastopol Bay.
  • Russian overnight drone and missile attacks caused fresh civilian casualties and damage, including one death and widespread destruction in Bila Tserkva, a large fire and injuries in Sumy, and earlier strikes that killed three in Dnipropetrovsk region.
  • Independent analysts at ISW said Moscow’s stated gains since March are overstated, estimating roughly 2,346 square kilometers and 130 settlements versus Russia’s claims of 3,500 square kilometers and 149 settlements.
  • Air force data analyzed by ABC News shows August’s total of Russian long-range drones and missiles fell about one-third from July, though several nights still produced large-scale, deadly barrages.
