Ukraine Publishes Technical Breakdown of Russia's Long-Range Gerbera-2 Attack Drone

Ukrainian agencies say the drone's larger 63‑litre fuel tank gives it about a 1,200 km range, with foreign-made components that complicate export controls.

Overview

  • Ukraine's Defence Intelligence (DIU) and the Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) released a coordinated technical analysis and an interactive 3D model on Monday that details the Gerbera-2's dimensions, systems and components.
  • The agencies reported the Gerbera-2 has a 3 m wingspan, a 2.6 m fuselage, a 63‑litre fuel tank and a two-cylinder two-stroke engine linked to Geran-2 production, which they say enable an asserted range of roughly 1,200 km.
  • The examined wreck carried a 10 kg OFZBCh-10 fragmentation-incendiary warhead while Russian specifications claim the airframe can support up to a 25 kg payload, according to DIU.
  • Analysts found upgraded avionics and sensors — including a 12-channel Kometa navigation system, an upgraded flight controller, mesh modems from Shenzhen Sinosun and dual IP cameras including a rear-facing camera to spot interceptor drones — which make interception harder.
  • HUR and DIU identified parts from the United States, China, Taiwan and several European countries, a mix that highlights supply-chain diffusion, raises export-control challenges and increases the risk of the drone being used beyond Ukraine after a mid-September wreck was found on Poland's Baltic coast.
