Ukraine Intercepts 82 of 108 Russian Drones in Overnight Attack

Ukraine’s layered defenses turned to advanced missile systems complemented by electronic jamming, air support during one of Russia’s heaviest nocturnal Shahed drone raids.

Overview

  • Russian forces launched 108 UAVs from Shatalovo, Kursk, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Chauda, comprising 104 Shahed strike drones, various simulators and eight high-speed jet UAVs.
  • By 8:00 a.m. on August 8, Ukrainian air defenses had destroyed 82 airborne targets, including 79 Shahed drones and three jet UAVs across northern, southern, eastern and central regions.
  • Despite the high interception rate, 26 drones struck 10 locations while debris from downed UAVs fell in eight additional areas.
  • Drone impacts in the Kyiv region sparked fires and injured a 16-year-old girl and two women aged 56 and 80.
