Ukraine Fends Off 83-Drone Raid as Russia Claims Downing of Nearly 300 Ukrainian UAVs

Ukraine’s multi-layered air defense network disrupted a massed Shahed and decoy drone assault, limiting damage to civilian infrastructure.

Overview

  • Ukrainian Air Defense Forces intercepted or suppressed 78 of 83 Iranian-made Shahed and dummy UAVs launched late on July 26 from Orel, Kursk, Shatalovo, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Crimea.
  • Ukrainian units deployed aviation, anti-aircraft missiles, electronic warfare, unmanned systems and mobile fire groups to counter the drone wave across northern, southern, eastern and central Ukraine.
  • Debris from five downed drones impacted three sites in central Ukraine, damaging four private homes and three farm buildings in the Kremenchuk and Poltava districts.
  • Russia’s Defense Ministry reported downing 291 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones as well as guided bombs and rockets, and canceled Saint Petersburg’s Navy Day parade for security reasons.
  • Russian strikes also targeted Ukrainian drone production facilities and control centers, according to official statements on July 27.
