Ukraine Expresses Support for One-China Principle

Despite ongoing attempts to court China following Russia's invasion, Ukraine's efforts have largely been unsuccessful.

Ukraine's ambassador to Beijing, Pavlo Riabikin, has expressed support for the one-China principle, which states that Taiwan is part of China.
Ukraine has been trying to persuade China, a close ally of Russia, to switch sides and support Ukraine following Russia's invasion two years ago.
Ukraine's attempts to court China have largely failed, with China maintaining strong ties with Russia and not condemning Russia for the invasion.
Ukraine has also been silent on China's human rights abuses and threats against Taiwan.
The meeting between Riabikin and Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong took place on the same day China and Russia held their first talks of the year in Moscow.
