Ukraine Expands Drone Strikes on Wildberries Logistics Network

The campaign aims to raise the domestic cost of war by degrading Russia’s supply chains.

Overview

  • Since July 18 Ukraine has carried out near-nightly long-range drone strikes that have hit Wildberries warehouses and other logistics hubs across Russia.
  • A Reuters review of satellite imagery shows roughly 1.18 million square metres of Wildberries storage has been damaged or destroyed, more than a fifth of the company's capacity.
  • The attacks have sharply disrupted deliveries, cut sales at franchise pick-up points by about half, and left thousands of small operators trying to sell or close their outlets.
  • Russian authorities said air defences destroyed 605 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight on Aug. 5–6 and reported falling debris damaged homes, vehicles and the facade of a Wildberries facility in Tver.
  • Wildberries has paid compensation to nearly 100,000 sellers and the Kremlin is discussing possible loans or subsidies as economists warn the strikes could push up inflation and weaken banks exposed to e-commerce losses.
