Ukraine Downs 87 of 112 Russian Drones in Overnight Barrage

Multi-directional Shahed/Gerbera launches drew a coordinated air-defense response.

Overview

  • Ukraine’s Air Force reported 87 of 112 hostile UAVs neutralized by 09:00 on Oct. 9, with several drones still airborne.
  • The strike began on the evening of Oct. 8 and involved more than 70 Shahed-class drones along with Gerbera and other types.
  • Launch directions were identified as Millerovo, Kursk, Shatalovo and Primorsko-Akhtarsk inside Russia.
  • Anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare teams, unmanned-systems units and mobile fire groups engaged the attackers.
  • Twenty-two drones hit 12 locations, and Odesa officials reported five injuries and large fires affecting homes, an administrative site, a gas station and port infrastructure.
