Ukraine Downs 131 of 149 Russian Drones in Overnight Multi-Directional Attack

Officials highlight a layered defense using aviation, missiles, electronic warfare, plus mobile groups.

Overview

  • The barrage began around 18:00 on December 7 and continued into the morning of December 8, according to the Air Force.
  • Russia launched 149 strike UAVs from Bryansk, Oryol, Kursk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Millerovo in Russia as well as occupied Donetsk and Crimea.
  • Roughly 90 of the incoming drones were Shahed-type, with Herbera and other models also used.
  • Ukrainian forces shot down or suppressed 131 drones across the north, south and east, while 16 recorded impacts hit 11 locations and debris fell at four sites.
  • At least seven people were injured in Okhtyrka in the Sumy region, and several drones remained in Ukrainian airspace as the situation developed.
