Ukraine Clears Firefly Guided Munition for Mass Production

Overview

• The Ministry of Defence announced July 20 that Firefly has passed tests and is ready for series or mass production.
• Firefly is a bolt-on guided munition that operates up to about 800 metres and autonomously calculates and corrects its flight path after release.
• The MoD says the system holds accuracy under enemy electronic warfare, which enables hits on bunkers, dugouts and other protected positions while keeping the carrier drone farther from the front line.
• Cabinet Resolution No. 1310 from October 13, 2025, authorizes the transfer of the technology to private firms, and the Ministry invited companies such as Brave1 to adopt and scale Firefly for production.
• The announcement builds on a broader push by the MoD to boost domestic arms output in H1 2026 and, if produced at scale and low cost, Firefly could raise the volume of precision strikes and force defenders to adapt air-defence and EW responses.
