Ukraine Clears $116 Million for Heating Repairs as Germany Pledges €100 Million Energy Aid

Officials cast the new funding as a fast response to Russian strikes that have disrupted power flows.

  • The Cabinet approved $116 million in grant funds under the second phase of a World Bank project to restore district heating in frontline regions.
  • Procurement and delivery will be handled by UNOPS under an expanded agreement that extends the project to the end of April 2027.
  • Seven cities are slated to receive equipment: Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Kryvyi Rih, Kremenchuk and Slavuta.
  • Municipal utilities will get mobile and stationary hot‑water boilers, mini‑cogeneration units, pump aggregates, pipes and components for heat‑network repairs, and equipment for alternative heat sources.
  • Germany announced an additional €100 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which has raised over €1.3 billion since 2022, with Berlin’s total contributions set to reach €550 million by end‑2025.
