Ukraine Arrests Two Donetsk Residents in Spy Ring Targeting Frontline Defenses

  • In Sloviansk a 33-year-old unemployed resident set up an apartment observation post to record troop movements on Google Maps and transmit coordinates for airstrikes via anonymous messenger.
  • Both suspects have been charged under Part 2 of Article 111 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code for high treason under martial law and face life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
  • The detainees communicated with handlers from Russia’s GRU and the General Staff’s Main Intelligence Directorate to facilitate drone and artillery strikes on Ukrainian positions.
  • The arrests are part of a sustained SBU counterintelligence operation since 2023 and prompted Ukrainian forces to reinforce frontline defenses in the Donetsk region.
