Overview
- The UK Health Security Agency warned on 7 November that the winter vomiting bug spreads more widely at this time of year.
- The NHS says symptoms such as sudden vomiting and diarrhoea usually resolve within two to three days if people stay hydrated.
- People with symptoms should stay home and avoid schools, workplaces, hospitals and care homes until 48 hours after symptoms stop.
- Officials advise washing hands with soap and water, cleaning contaminated surfaces, and washing soiled laundry at 60C because alcohol gels do not kill the virus.
- Do not visit GPs or hospitals while unwell; seek advice via NHS 111 or your GP by phone and call if diarrhoea lasts over seven days or vomiting over two days.
