UK Women Now More Likely to Buy Homes Solo as Skipton Launches Track Record No-Deposit Mortgage

Skipton’s Track Record Mortgage uses rental payment records to help independent buyers overcome traditional deposit barriers.

Overview

  • A Skipton survey found that 37% of women plan to purchase a property independently, surpassing the 35% who intend to buy with a partner.
  • Skipton Building Society reported 11.5% more solo mortgage applications from women than men in 2024 and nearly 7% more so far in 2025.
  • Four in ten women cited financial security as their primary motivation for buying solo, while a third said they did not want to rely on a partner for life progression.
  • Solo buyers currently have an average deposit of £9,420 but estimate they need £27,414 to get on the property ladder, with 36% struggling to find affordable homes in their preferred areas.
  • Two-thirds of respondents said that additional support schemes and mortgage products tailored to solo buyers would help them overcome existing barriers.
