Overview

  • There have been 420 lab-confirmed measles cases in England so far in 2025, with 109 in April and 86 in May.
  • Europe recorded 127,350 measles cases in 2024, the highest annual total since 1997 and twice the number seen in 2023.
  • London’s five-year uptake rate for two-dose MMR vaccination stands at 73.3 per cent, leaving nearly 28 per cent of children without full protection.
  • Unvaccinated children aged ten and under account for the majority of cases and face risks of pneumonia, meningitis and long-term health issues.
  • The UK Health Security Agency warns that holiday travel to outbreak areas could fuel further spread and urges families to confirm all members are up to date with two MMR doses.
