Overview

  • Turkey’s telecommunications regulator BTK enacted the ban on July 22, preventing new in-country eSIM activations from providers such as Airalo, Holafly and Saily.
  • On July 28, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office issued updated travel advice warning that access to some eSIM services will be restricted for arriving tourists.
  • The FCDO advisory also reminds travellers to meet passport requirements, including 150 days of validity beyond entry and at least one blank visa page.
  • Travellers are advised to save eSIM installation codes offline and consider using a virtual private network to manage digital SIM setups.
  • eSIMs offer British holidaymakers affordable data and flexibility abroad but risk leaving users without connectivity if not preactivated.
