UK Unveils £84m Winter Homelessness Fund as Councils Face Record Pressures

Charities describe the cash as short-term relief, urging a comprehensive homelessness strategy focused on prevention and housing supply.

Overview

  • Ministers announced £84 million for immediate winter support, including prevention work for rough sleepers and help for families in temporary accommodation.
  • Nearly £70 million goes to the Rough Sleeping Prevention and Recovery Grant for 62 local authorities, with £3 million for drug and alcohol services across 83 areas and a pan-London project.
  • Families will receive £11 million for essentials such as food, school travel, laundry and connectivity in 61 areas with the highest numbers of children in temporary accommodation.
  • London is allocated £36.5 million from the package, while the North West receives £8.2 million as regional shares are set to target the highest pressures.
