Overview

  • Holidaymakers flying from the UK to EU states this summer are prohibited from carrying meat and dairy products, including common meal deal sandwiches.
  • Consumption of these items is permitted onboard and in airport terminals but they must be disposed of before crossing into EU customs control.
  • EU border authorities will confiscate undeclared meat or dairy goods and can issue fines or pursue criminal prosecution for non-compliance.
  • Exceptions allow limited amounts of fruit, vegetables, eggs, egg products, honey and up to 20 kg of fish or fish products under specified conditions.
  • The regulations apply only to travellers arriving from non-EU countries such as the UK and do not affect journeys within the EU or from Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, San Marino, Andorra or Liechtenstein.
