Overview
- The Royal British Legion’s Carlisle and Stanwix branch will stage a parade on August 15, pause for a two-minute silence at 12 pm, then hold a service at St Cuthbert’s Church and refreshments at the Tithe Barn.
- Dorchester Town Council will lead a 9.30 am moment of reflection at the Town Pump before raising a special VJ 80th flag over the Town Hall.
- Colchester will host an 11.45 am public service at the Burma Star Association Memorial in Castle Park with the Lord Lieutenant of Essex, MP Pam Cox and military representatives in attendance.
- Wirral’s programme begins with an 11 am civic service at Port Sunlight’s War Memorial led by the Wirral Pipe Band, followed by a 1940s-themed tea dance fundraiser at Wallasey Town Hall.
- All observances will converge on a nationwide two-minute silence at noon as communities invite veterans, families and the public to honour those who served in the Far East.
