UK to Launch Digital IDs, Starting with Driving Licenses and Veteran Cards

Security features such as facial recognition will protect the digital IDs, and physical documents will remain available for those who prefer them.

The UK government projects £45 billion in annual savings from digitizing public services and plans to ensure all paper-based credentials have digital alternatives by the end of 2027.
