Overview

  • Deficit support funding will be phased out entirely from 2026/27 to encourage financial discipline across NHS trusts.
  • Around £2.2 billion previously earmarked for trust deficits will be reallocated to staff, medicines, technology and equipment in deprived communities.
  • The government will review the GP funding formula to address a 10% per-patient funding shortfall and the extra 300 patients per GP faced in poorer areas.
  • New NHS App features, including the My Companion AI health guide and My Choices treatment directory, are set to give patients more information and choice.
  • A pilot scheme will recruit 1,000 NHS staff from communities with high unemployment to support local economic growth
