UK to ban many foreign students from bringing families, changing visas
- The UK will remove the right of some international students to bring family members into the country.
- The measures aim to reduce annual net migration, which reached a record high last year.
- Postgraduate students (except those on research programmes) will be affected by the new measures.
- The measures will remove the ability for international students to switch out of the student route into work routes before their studies have been completed.
- The new rules will take effect in January.
