Overview

  • The consultation launched in November received 17 responses from private individuals, companies and representative bodies.
  • Five new UNECE-derived rules will update eCall systems, mandate ALKS compliance, revise ISOFIX regulations, allow on-board fuel and CO2 calculations and amend windscreen defrost/demist test procedures.
  • The regulations affect petrol, diesel and electric vehicle approvals under the GB type approval scheme.
  • The Department for Transport regards international standards as the most cost-effective route to keep vehicle regulations current.
  • All changes will be enacted through statutory instruments that amend the assimilated GB regulations retained from EU law.
