UK State Pension Set for 4.8% Triple Lock Rise From April 2026

Universal Credit is already scheduled for a larger 6.2% uprating next spring under existing legislation.

Overview

  • ONS data show average earnings grew 4.8% in May–July, outpacing September’s 3.8% inflation rate and setting the Triple Lock uprating figure.
  • The full new state pension is expected to reach about £241.30 per week, or roughly £12,548 a year, with the pre‑2016 basic rate rising to around £184.90 per week.
  • Chancellor Rachel Reeves is due to confirm the final rates at the Autumn Budget on 26 November, with changes taking effect from 6 April 2026.
  • Universal Credit’s standard allowance will rise by 6.2% from April, delivering a bigger increase than the state pension uplift.
  • Analysts warn the frozen £12,570 personal allowance could pull more pensioners into income tax by 2027 as upratings continue.
