The warm weather coincides with the spring equinox, marking the first day of astronomical spring, though it is unlikely to break the 1972 equinox record of 21.5°C.
Parts of the UK could be warmer than Barcelona and Athens on Thursday, where temperatures are forecast at 15°C and 12°C, respectively.
The warm spell is expected to end on Friday, with rain and cooler temperatures forecast for the weekend as unsettled weather moves in.
