Overview

  • The £650 million Electric Car Grant offers up to £3,750 off new electric vehicles costing £37,000 or less to strengthen private adoption.
  • Awards are split into two bands based on sustainability, with the cleanest band one models qualifying for £3,750 and band two cars eligible for £1,500.
  • Manufacturers can apply from mid-July and will recoup discounts at the point of sale to pass savings directly to buyers.
  • Premium electric brands such as Tesla, BMW, Audi and Mercedes are excluded from the scheme under the £37,000 price cap.
  • The grant launch accompanies the rollout of over 82,000 public chargers and new on-street charging support ahead of the 2030 petrol and diesel sales ban.
