Overview
- Travellers bringing meat, dairy or foods containing them into Great Britain face seizure and possible fines of up to £5,000, even if items are sealed or bought duty‑free.
- Banned items include all cheeses, all meat products (raw, cooked or cured), milk, yoghurt, butter and cream, as well as sandwiches, baked goods and salads that contain meat or dairy.
- Authorities say prohibited foods must be surrendered at the border and will be destroyed if found in luggage or hand baggage, with enforcement continuing at ports and airports.
- The restrictions apply to arrivals into Great Britain and do not cover personal imports from Northern Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man, with only narrow exemptions such as infant formula and certain medical foods.
- Officials note the April 2025 policy remains in force with no end date announced, and travel experts warn the 12 October EU Entry/Exit System rollout may add to travellers’ confusion over what is allowed.
