UK Publishes Suppressed Report Revealing Decades of Racist Immigration Laws

A tribunal forced the release of a report showing how immigration policies from 1950 to 1981 aimed to reduce the non-white population in Britain.

The report, titled 'The Historical Roots of the Windrush Scandal,' was previously withheld by the Home Office under the Conservative government.
The newly elected Labour government decided to publish the report in full, following a tribunal judgment that demanded its release.
The report concludes that every major piece of immigration legislation between 1950 and 1981 was designed to limit the number of Black and brown people in the UK.
The Windrush scandal saw thousands of Caribbean migrants wrongfully detained, deported, or denied basic rights despite having lived in Britain for decades.
Labour has pledged to reform the compensation scheme for Windrush victims and restore the Windrush Unit to the Home Office.
