UK Prosecutors Authorize 21 Criminal Charges for Tate Brothers, Extradition Pending

Extradition to Britain remains on hold pending the completion of their trial in Romania.

BUCHAREST, ROMANIA - MARCH 23: Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate talk to the media outside their residence on March 23, 2025 in Bucharest, Romania. Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan had flown to the United States last month from Romania, where they have been charged with rape, having sex with a minor, human trafficking and money laundering, charges which they deny. Their bail conditions stipulated that they had to return to Romania by March 23. (Photo by Andrei Pungovschi/Getty Images)

Overview

  • Andrew Tate faces ten UK charges—including rape, human trafficking, controlling prostitution for gain and actual bodily harm—linked to three alleged victims, while Tristan Tate faces eleven charges including rape, human trafficking and actual bodily harm related to one victim.
  • All charges concern alleged offences in the UK between 2012 and 2015 and were formally authorized by the Crown Prosecution Service in January 2024 after Bedfordshire Police submitted a file of evidence.
  • A European Arrest Warrant issued in 2024 underpins the UK prosecution, but the brothers cannot be transferred until they conclude separate criminal proceedings in Romania.
  • The Tate brothers deny all wrongdoing and allege the UK and Romanian cases are politically motivated because of their influential online following.
  • Andrew Tate is also defending a UK civil lawsuit filed by four women accusing him of sexual and physical abuse, with that trial set for 2027.
